Hell, that word we just choose not to think about. If you are a follower of Jesus Christ, (a Christian), hopefully you have been taught that Hell is real and that without the forgiveness of Christ, Hell will be very real. I know, you may be saying, Hell, I don't know if that is real? Why would God send people to Hell? Actually, He doesn't, we send ourselves there.
The belief in Hell has alot to do with where you stand with your belief in the Bible. If the Bible is the revelation of God, is inspired by God, is inerrant and without error, then you have to believe in Hell because it's talked about in the Bible. Even Jesus himself talked about Hell forty six times in the Bible.
As said by Mark Driscoll, "Despite God's love for and patience for sinners, it is a horrible mistake to dismiss the Bible's clear teaching on Hell." Richard Niebuhr characterized the on going attempt of liberal Christians to deny Hell as, " A God without wrath brought men without sin into a kingdom without judgement through the ministrations of a Christ without a cross." Actually, Jesus said more about Hell than any other topic. More than half of His parables relate to the eternal punishment of sinners.
If you don't believe in the Bible, does that mean that Hell is not real? Actually no, Hell is more real for you than ever. Many other religions also believe in Hell. Even with these being false religions they still believe in something as real as Hell. Check my Religions page for further info.
The Bible describes Hell in many ways and forms. There are many verses on it's location, it's described as a pit where there is fire and burning. It is a place of destruction, torment, darkness, and there are even different levels. The Bible says there is no hope there, no peace, no purpose, no life, no rest, no strength, and no mercy.
Many people believe in Heaven, yet they do not believe in Hell. Alot of that has to do with un-biblical teaching in the church itself. The Bible has many names for Hell. Hell is a place of eternal punishment that we have earned because of our sin. The Bible says those that are in Hell will acknowledge the perfect justice of God. (Psalm 76:10) So, maybe the question should'nt be, "Is Hell Real?", but "Since Hell is real, how can I keep from going there?" Mostly, do not avoid the word, many would have you believe Christianity is about quality of life and living a great life here on earth. Christianity is about God becoming man by the name Jesus Christ who died for the forgiveness of our sins. So intern, we escape the punishment of God. (Matt. 25:46) We escape that punishment by the saving grace, love, and mercy of Jesus Christ. With that said, Hell is very real. If it is not, you have nothing to lose. However, if Hell is real and you choose not to believe it along with the saving grace of Jesus Christ, you have everything to lose! For more info and a better understanding Check this link:
