What does the Bible say?
"You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination." Leviticus 18:22
"If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them." Leviticus 20:13
"Just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire." Jude 1:7
"Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality," 1 Corinthians 6:9
"And the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error." Romans 1:27
"For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature;" Romans 1:26
"Understanding this, that the law is not laid down for the just but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who strike their fathers and mothers, for murderers, the sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine," 1 Timothy 1:9-10
"But because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband." 1 Corinthians 7:2
Homosexuality- One in the same having a sexual relationship.
Just the mention of this word brings division. How should we as Christians respond to the word and the lifestyle of homosexuality? Homo from the creek means
"one in the same." Sexual means relating to the instincts, physiological processes, and activities connected with physical attraction or intimate physical contact between individuals: Basically, it's about sex!
A lifestyle as a Christian is about pursuing a life of Holiness. This is spiritual and moral excellence. Not because we are trying to earn our salvation but because we are saved. Although we never fully arrive until death, we are to go on the journey of holiness.
Holiness is doing away with sin. Sin involves those things that go against God's moral standards or moral law. We as Christians believe the Bible is the authority on these standards. So, what does the Bible say about homosexuality?
We see all of the Bible condemns the word and lifestyle and has nothing positive to say about it. God is a builder and a God of order. His order is a natural process meaning certain things He has created have a natural order. As Christians, we see the Bible shows us that the homosexual lifestyle is "NOT" of a natural process. Meaning sexually, male and female sexual activity of the same, is not a natural order that God intended for humanity.
As Christians, we do believe that because of sin in our lives, the desire for same sex attraction exist. However, like we see in the scriptures, we are called to deny our own sinful selfish desires and follow Christ. Jesus said in Mark 7:20-23, "And he said, “What comes out of a person is what defiles him. For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.”
So the homosexual lifestyle is sinful just like sexual immorality, drunkenness, fornication, theft, slander, etc. and as Christians should be avoided. We as Christians are commanded to not live in sin. Individual holiness is to be pursued. As we pursue holiness, we are to show love to those whom struggle with the desire of same sex attraction!
Let us remember, there is way that seems right to man.
"There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death." Proverbs 14:12
